Background: The phenomenon of the spread of the covid-19 virus has not yet been able to be controlled. That not only has an impact on physical but also psychological disorders for health workers who handle COVID-19 patients. The purpose of the study was to obtain information and to examine in depth the triggers of psychological disorders in health workers in the Covid-19 isolation ward at Hasanuddin University Hospital Makassar in 2021.
Methods: This research is a quasi-qualitative research with a phenomenological approach by means of observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The technique of determining the informants was done by purposive sampling. The number of informants is 7 main informants, 2 supporting informants, and 1 key informant.
Results: This study showed that from the measurement of the DASS questionnaire, there were 3 people experiencing moderate anxiety, 2 people with mild anxiety, and 2 people with mild stress. (1) The source of triggers for psychological disorders is information circulating about the malignancy of covid-19, negative stigmas about covid-19 officers, fear of being infected and transmitting the covid-19 virus to families, inappropriate use of PPE and an atmosphere of self-isolation.
Conclusions and suggestions: Psychological disorders experienced by health workers occur due to threatening environmental conditions and reactions from within to the environment. It is necessary to provide assistance to health workers as a strategy to overcome and reduce stress and anxiety in dealing with COVID-19 patients.
